A major disadvantage of threaded inserts

I bought this to install 64 threaded inserts #8- 32 ez locomotive. I am making a lego style dresser for my son and needed a good solution to attach individual "handles" made out of lego bricks. I bought this tool thinking it would make installation faster and easier. I have found that it is not possible to do a straight (flat) installation as the grooves on this tool are slightly deeper than the grooves on the bit. At first I tried using my drill but I found it had too much torque and once I hit the bottom it would expose the edges of the hole. I switched to a ratchet screwdriver and got much better control. In each case, the notch and groove mismatch caused the bit to wobble no matter how straight I held the tool. Luckily I use pressure treated wood and was able to remove and reinsert the insert without sanding the hole. This has helped me fix my REALLY uneven inserts, although they're still not completely straight.

  • Drive tool - optional - used with 550-1420, 650-6, 400-4, 400-428, 400-M6
