I use it on camping trips for boiling water and cooking. It's getting very hot. And it stays warm for a while. Appears to be high quality and durable. It has a little weight. I looked at $20 burners and they looked cheap and not durable. This one costs about $30 and is well worth the extra money I spent. It stands on four legs, but the base gets pretty hot. (It's also an electric burner, yes.) So I usually put a metal baking sheet underneath when using it on a countertop. I would rather use this electric burner than my small propane stove and it uses camping electricity rather than buying propane. It gets hot enough to fry steaks.
