I have a Kenwood dual band ham radio which means you can hear two different frequencies at the same time. The internal speaker is pretty good, but unless you're looking at the radio, and in some cases even when you're looking at it, you can't tell what frequency you're listening to. If only one is receiving you can tell from the display, but if both are being received at the same time you will hear both transmissions. Being a bit stupid, I installed one speaker on the left and the other on the right. So I could easily tell which band I was listening to. The sound doesn't have the quality of a concert hall, but that's not what you want with amateur radio either. I think that's acceptable, especially for a small size. I usually keep my volume pretty low and they work well. There are better speakers out there if you want to spend over $100 each.
