Review on USBGear USB to Serial Adapter RS-232 DB-9 Male - Compatible with Windows 10, 8, 7 and Mac by John Wei

I have two of these. I plug them in and they just work. I have a computer connected to my firewall's console port in case I need to communicate with it that way. I keep the other in my tool bag in case I need to connect other network devices. Prefabrication of some network equipment for which this would be invaluable. Sometimes you need a COM port. It's nice to be able to easily add it to a more modern computer. It has side lights so you can see the activity. The device is really good, never had any problems with it.
