Like everyone else I spent a lot of time researching the world of coffee makers including browsing the SCAA website as well as countless coffee maker reviews before making this purchase and there were relatively few reviews for this coffee maker so I was a little nervous . I don't need to worry - this little girl makes great coffee. After our traditional drip coffee maker died and we read an article about coffee in the NYT a few months earlier, we were excited to change up our coffee routine. We switched from a rotary mill to a Baratza Encore burr mill. We bought scales. Bought this coffee maker. I also looked at the Technivorm Moccamaster in my research, but that seems like something you had to work with while it was brewing and I don't need to be actively involved - why not just a regular pour-over filter in that case? ? Bonavita, the top choice of most reviewers, had carafe issues that I didn't want to address. The OXO Barista Brain received very mixed reviews and seemed unnecessarily finicky and expensive for what it was. What we liked about Cuisinart CPO-800:1. The coffee is really good. It took a while to get used to - according to SCAA guidelines you should use LOTS of coffee, which we did in bold. Obviously we're not as cool as the rest of the coffee drinkers who like that bitter, unpleasant taste (yes, we've tried different coffees). We also tried the medium setting with the same amount of coffee - it was better, but my goodness, we ran out of coffee quickly. We ended up with about 2/3 of what the bold and light (which is pretty spicy) recommendations are. We also use the included steel filter which really tells you how pagan we are because everyone knows coffee tastes better with paper filters.2. Brews fast! I haven't timed it, but if we forget to brew it in the morning while we're walking the dogs, that's fine because the coffee will be ready before I pack lunch for work. It's attractive. Who cares, right? Now that's a nice feature. It doesn't have a really big profile and looks good (Jetsons style) on the counter.4. The warmer keeps the coffee hot without burning it. (See - heathen. The real coffee elite would get a thermographic version). What I don't like: 1. Right, only that the carafe is quite small. That's enough for one cup of coffee at a time, and then one person selfishly fills their travel mug, leaving about 1/2 cup for the person who goes to work later. However, as mentioned above, it brews so quickly that it's easy to make more.
