UPDATE: 6-2018 - We've moved to Florida from cold and snowy New Hampshire and I was really concerned about the heat because I was on a heated waterbed slept in a climate known for its heat and humidity. We looked at the new beds and, scratching our jaws after seeing the price tags, decided to give our trusty old one a try after all. I didn't disassemble my New Hampshire waterbed very carefully because I never thought I could use it again and only took it because my husband insisted. It sat in the middle of a moving POD in New Hampshire and Florida for several months and waited bagged for another month before we decided to try it. It held its shape, there was no smelly residue inside, and there were no holes in it. I stand by my original review and if you are as shocked as I am that they charge a thousand dollars for a large piece of styrofoam and can tell you it is on sale then please consider this option. Even in Florida it's cooler than sleeping on foam. .TIP: We use an old duvet over the water bed under the bed sheet. This helps avoid unnecessary heating work and keeps the body cooler by maintaining a thicker layer between the plastic mattress and the sheets. Win-win option.--------------------Original review---------------------Very good Mattress. Only time will tell as to durability but it's a nice heavy material with well reinforced corners and seems to be pretty much the same mattress we had and it's lasted a long time. The only reason we replaced it after many years was a power surge that blew our heater causing the mattress to overheat. Luckily it survived the hot spot and didn't leak - not even with a large burn mark that welded it to the liner and burned through the wood underneath. (Wow!) I'd say it has a slight plastic smell, which I don't remember from previous mattresses, but I've never changed one in the winter, so heavy blankets and constant heat make me think. are the culprits. I only notice a slight smell when I first walk in and now that it's been a few weeks I can't even smell it when I walk in. If you're new to waterbeds, it's just giant plastic. a bag that holds water. There is nothing else in it. It's shaped like a mattress, but you still need a waterbed frame to hold its shape. We've been using them for decades (33 years) and no other bed can compare to this level of comfort. If you have muscle or bone pain (like my arthritis) this is heaven to sleep in.
