I am very disappointed with the pricing of Canon's lens hood. For the EF 70-300mm f/4-5.6 IS II USM, a genuine Canon lens hood costs $44. It's a piece of plastic that might cost a few dollars to make and doesn't have a lot of engineering behind it. So I was happy to see that a third party product replaced the ET-74B hood. I don't have a direct comparison with the original Canon lens hood for this lens, but it seems to me that the quality is the same as other original Canon lens hoods. I own. It fits perfectly and offers the same functions as Canon's original lens hood (can also be mounted upside down for storage and has a small locking knob). So if you can live with a lens hood that doesn't have the Canon logo printed on it, this is a good and significantly cheaper alternative.
