Works but has a few bugs that can cause headaches

Yes, it works. with some caveats. I use this in a 2011 A4 with an iPhone 6S (also worked with 6 and 7 plus). 3 stars for functionality but not the full 5 because there are a lot of bugs to fix. Pros: - It allows you to use Bluetooth to play music in the car, which is great. No more extra cable. The sound quality has not deteriorated. Cons: Play song from phone on startup. The same song every time. For me he chose the first song I bought on iTunes (about 5 years ago). So when I start the car when it's set to Media/Additional instead of Radio the same song starts playing. It gets monotonous and annoying. - Remains on for about 5-10 minutes after the last connection was lost - even when the car is off. On the one hand, this can discharge a car battery, but on the other hand it can also be very annoying. (read below) - The range of Bluetooth is ridiculously long. Normally this would be a plus, not a minus, except that this thing stays on even when the machine is off. I go to the gym, park about 30ft from the entrance (about 50-60ft from where I usually squat/lift) and STILL have my phone connected to this thing. Which is interrupted by all the headphones I have connected via BT. It also connects automatically. So forget about going into BT settings and manually disconnecting the adapter. It just reconnects and keeps working. I often have to park very far from the gym OR completely remove the device from my phone and pair it again when I get back in the car. Can be very annoying if you go to the gym 4-5 times a week. - You cannot pause the music without turning off the music or completely muting the console. When I try to pause the music on my phone it keeps playing. This can sometimes be a bit annoying. - Doesn't track music well. Aside from the main music library, it doesn't show much information about the songs other than the title. When I switch to Spotify, I can only navigate through my library using the Spotify app on my phone. I can't use the skip/back buttons in the command console or music from my main library starts playing in the Music app again. The same goes for Pandora, Soundcloud and all the other apps I've tried. That way you keep using your phone to search for things. All in all, if you want to do without the extra cable, then yes, get this. Despite the downsides, working with the accessory cable adapter can certainly be problematic. But this thing can become an annoyance beyond your imagination, and you may find yourself constantly having to disconnect and reconnect the adapter to your phone or worry about your car battery dying.
