We had an old metal knife for many years but when it finally broke we bought this one. I wish we had thrown away our old one sooner because it's much safer. The metal tape has bent, broken, pinched or cut us many times, but this tape is much easier to work with and due to its nature it will not cause any injury if accidentally torn off. I will be buying another one to keep in my garage tool box - this one passed the test and can stay in our laundry room for easy access when needed.
