Review on Topcon RL-H5A Horizontal Self-Leveling Laser by Derek Pape

Although the description says "LS-80L or LS-100D sensor" the fine print in the technical details says "with LS-80L- receiver and dry battery". . You only get the bottom receiver in this kit, but you can use another receiver if you buy it separately. This was my first disappointment. The LS-80L receiver works well but is unreadable in bright sunlight from any angle other than straight ahead. This is a real problem when the receiver is high or low when reading the difference in estimates. The beep was not accurate enough to be used blindly. Why Topcon chose dark LCDs and not LEDs like other manufacturers is beyond me. All I want is a receiver with 3 LEDs showing me High/Target/Low. To get this from Topcon I would have had to spend a lot more money. Sent it back as it was unusable in my applications.
