Very effective for a quick off-road trip

Car camping or tent 4 months a year. I have used this tent for the last 10 days with a 2013 Subaru Forester for a long distance work trip. I wanted something that would allow me to keep the tailgate open to expand my sleeping space up to 6 feet while keeping bugs and rain out. uneven land, like most BLM and USFS land. It's certainly cheap to build, but you get the quality you pay for. The design is excellent and could be even better with some small changes. It would be great if the hatchback structure were fully utilized to drop a solid panel curtain on all three sides to create a small dressing room or undressing room. Space to cook in the wind. Sleeping in a small SUV or hatchback is particularly cramped, especially for changing. The construction would take a little longer. There are small gaps in the spots between the side of the car and the mosquito net but that has held them back so far. I have yet to test it in the rain but I already know it won't be perfect as I can see holes through the apparent surface. However, with a bit of waterproofing spray, this should be enough. You want to sleep outside your hatchback. I'd easily pay $200 if the materials were beefed up and there were zippered side panels that could be used in conjunction with a hinged cover to create a permanent area of privacy under the tailgate.

Pros
  • Not cheap but decent
Cons
  • Communication with seller
