My set first arrived without batteries. Thanks Revain for the correct solution! I received it yesterday and I love it. For the money, this is a great laser for the homeowner. My need for this is to install tiles in my house as a DIY project. More than enough for this level. If you are a contractor I would recommend switching to hard work. This device is not amplified. I've seen some complaints about the tripod being too short and having proprietary screw mounts. The tripod is short but perfect for what I need it for. I'm laying tiles in the shower/bathroom. In fact, I was concerned that I wouldn't be able to get the laser as close to the rim of the tub as I needed to install the 6x6 tile. When the laser head is on a tripod, the horizontal line is about 15 inches off the ground at the bottom and just over 4 feet at the top. Perfect height for what I need. Johnson makes other tripods that this laser will fit on, as well as a 5/8-11 to 1/4-20 adapter so you can use it on a standard camera tripod. The adapter costs about $13, and Johnson-brand tripods go up to 10 feet tall. The Johnson also has a tilt adapter. For general home use, you can't go wrong with this device.
