This thing gets hot and eats batteries!

I use this product to maintain my night vision while doing astronomy. It gets VERY hot and the level of light output drops pretty quickly. One thing that I don't think the ads mention is that it is capable of using 1650 style batteries. These are large rechargeable batteries that are typically used in vaping applications. I use those batteries and this might be why the headlamp runs hot. I have never really used it on the AAA batteries but I cant imagine that they would last very long. The other thing. Using this is my application is a bit awkward due to the protrusion of the focusing lense itself. I find that it does not allow close access to the eyepiece without bumping into the equipment. I often find that I have to turn it to the side to use it when getting close to my telescope. Also not mentioned in the ads is the illumination on the back of the headlamp! Yes! there is a small illuminated section on the back of the headlamp. This is useful if you are working with more than one person in the dark. The small illuminated section on the back of the headlamp allows you to easily identify where other people are in the dark. Finally, they are bright! (perhaps too bright for my use)
