Revainrating 5 out of 5

Easy to set up and run, the app needs some tweaking, advanced features are in place as you dig

So I got them on 6/4/21 and have been using them for 2 days now so I'm skeptical to check and update if anything changes. This replaced an Asus ROG GT-5300GTS. Setup was easy, you need to use an app. The basic setup was done in less than 5 minutes and I renamed the SSID to my old one. The router checked for a firmware update and updated it automatically (took about 5 minutes). All of my existing devices migrated with no issues/reconfiguration, so A+ for ease of use. To be honest, it was pretty amazing that more than 46 devices came back online without any issues. While the app is required for initial setup, it's not the best or fastest. Logging in/reconnecting after making changes is slow, more than 20 seconds for something that should be instantaneous. It looks like it tries to connect via the cloud first, then tunnels locally (even when my tablet is connected to WiFi, not cellular). Luckily, once the initial setup is complete, you can switch to a PC for a "real" configuration. As much as Netgear wants you to use this app, the app just doesn't have all the features you can customize (although Netgear is happy to say the app is "much faster!"). The web interface is clean and user-friendly. Pretty easy to navigate, but some things are split between the "Basic" and "Advanced" headings. If you have a good high-resolution screen, you won't be able to resize the center area to take advantage of all the extra real estate. It's like trying to make a desktop interface work as a mobile website. Speeds are good and switching from router to satellite is seamless. I accidentally left out one of the switches that the satellite was plugged into and didn't notice any difference in speed. It wasn't until I checked the sitemap that I realized the problem and fixed it. The wired transmission network is a big plus and the main reason why I chose this option.

Pros
  • Coverage of up to 6,750mΒ². ft and 40+ units
Cons
  • Very expensive
