The balance is fantastic, much better than the handles we received as a wedding gift. These are full shank knives, meaning the metal of the blade extends to the end of the knife handle. These are very sharp. One of them is a serrated knife, for example for slicing tomatoes or bread. One is a paring knife, another is a utility knife, and a third is a chef's knife. The length of the chef's knife is shorter than what we are used to. They feel great in hand. Now we want more Japanese Sabatier knives in larger sizes. The block is narrow, which is nice to the touch, but it wobbles and wobbles, we prefer a more solid block of wood. But most importantly, these are real knives, so I'm still giving this a 5 star rating = Love It.
