I suppose there is some disagreement about the need for a pre motor filter but I had a lot of black (probably motor brush dust). It took a little effort to mount the new one correctly. It's not a detail issue, it's just that the body of the vacuum cleaner is designed the way it was designed. Overall, the vacuum performs better and works great.
