I don't consider myself a music lover and I can't afford to spend thousands of dollars on audio equipment. But I always try to get the best bang for my buck. I started with an inexpensive Kinter K3118 amplifier. I added a heatsink and used a 20V 3.5A laptop power supply instead of the included 12V power supply to get more power out of this amp. The speakers I used are a pair of Polk T15s that I modified with a custom 2nd order. crossing. In the last few months during the Covid19 self-isolation I have started buying new equipment to improve my sound quality. So I started with a DAC: Fosi Audio Q7 DAC (AKM AK4493EQ and AK4118, Bluetooth and OPAMP OP275 with connector) connected via Toslink from my computer. I immediately noticed a difference (improvement) in sound quality. I later bought an FX Audio Tube 01 preamp with a pair of GE JAN 5654W tubes to improve clarity and reduce distortion to 0.15% and modified output coupling capacitors (1uF to 2.2uF). ) to boost the low-level frequency response. And in the end I was happy with my sound. The Kinter amp gave me more power than I needed, but I kept looking for better sound. Until I found out about this Aiyima A04 amp and started researching. It has a newer and higher quality, more powerful chip with less distortion than the other Kinter K3118 amplifier. No hum, hiss or pops when switching on or off, interchangeable op amps and beautiful sound. This amp is a real winner. The sound is great, the amp is well built and looks very nice next to my DAC and preamp (also black). I'm using a 30V 5A power supply that I already had. I could play around with different op amps, but so far everything is clear with the standard NE5532P. In the near future I am thinking of replacing the speakers with a pair of Pioneer BS22-LR. I've read that these are some of the best speakers in their price range. After all, it's possible to get very good sound without spending too much (only $270. DAC: $80, preamp: $32 plus $18 for new tubes and $3 for new capacitors. Speakers: $50, which I suggest 2 years plus $17 for crossover parts amp: $50 plus $20 for power supply). If you are willing to spend a little more money or have a higher budget, then invest in a higher quality speaker: Polk S15, ELAC Debut B5 or Pioneer BS22-LR. You will not be disappointed.
