I have two Slamtec A1M8s but needed an O&M of the smaller A2M8 as I had limited space to mount the lidar on the front of my 1/10 scale Traxxas 4WD Slash Truck chassis . I have built a lidar test rig consisting of an Rpi 3B+ and a Waveshare LCD programmed with Adafruit's RPLidar Python program to display distance data as dots on the LCD. As expected, the A2M8 worked right out of the box. However, unlike its A1M8 cousin, the turret does not start rotating until the display program requests range data, and then it starts rotating.
