Review on Mapei Grout Refresh Colorant And Sealer: Grout Paint And Sealant - 8 Ounce Bottle Building Supplies by Chris Horton

Revainrating 4 out of 5

So far, so good - building materials

I give this article 4 stars.... not 5. just because at the moment it's hard to say how it will hold up and there are no instructions. I used it on 1/16 grout between granite tiles in a large kitchen - the grout hasn't been sealed or touched in about 14 years. Black granite tiles with unpolished polyblend grout in CHARCOAL color. I'm having a hard time finding Polyblend joint sealer. This color matches Polyblend's CHARCOAL grout. A few pointers: Clean and thoroughly dry the tiles and grout before you begin. Remember, if you're sealing granite at this point, you're sealing a discolored grout - and the colored grout most likely won't penetrate it, so don't do it. Bye. Either glue the tiles (real PITA) or be very careful and FAST as this product will dry out FAST leaving streaks and stains on granite tiles. Applying the product and soaking it in small lines in the solution is a challenge as this product is not pourable - it is liquid but not very liquid so either use the smallest Q-Nozzle you can find or maybe a set of tube brushes --- Either way, you'll get a product that flows and flows onto your tile. I got frustrated and said H and used a big Q tip and just smeared it on the grout line and then cleaned it like this: use a WET not soaked but damp paper towel folded flat and go over the grout line, to remove excess product . . It will not remove it from the mortar if you keep it folded. After that, use a paper towel on both sides of the grout on the tile to wipe dry. For a medium-sized kitchen, you'll use up an entire roll of paper towels. If you let it dry on your granite you will have a hard time rubbing and leaving more nasty marks than if you followed my instructions. A day later I applied a granite polish to the granite, which of course also got onto the joints - the marks are hardly noticeable and seem to have disappeared over time. It seems to have soaked in and once dry I can't get it off with my fingernail and a paper towel while rubbing the grout lines. I like it at the moment. This bottle is 10 TIMES the amount needed and my kitchen is very large --- so FYI.
