I just replaced the rear struts on my 2001 Grand Prix and reused the springs and dusters but I didn't want to pay a lot for a limited use tool...so I bought this one. That's enough research and the bars were actually thicker than my coil springs. The problem was the springs only had 3 coils to use the tool but they were weak springs so it did the job. The main problem was the lack of space, so I could only use the ratchet on one side and had to use the ring spanner on the other side because the part I had to turn was right up against the mounting plate. At around $16, it was worth it as that's about what I paid for each rack. The good news was that all 4 handles were hooked onto the spring so I felt a little more secure than if it was just one.
