We have a strong lab. So maybe that was it. We had problems with the battery, it flashed green and then red. Vibration was not enough even when using teeth designed for long haired dogs. This collar may fit small dogs but not ours. We contacted the company and they said it works for most dogs. They didn't fix the battery problem. The manufacturer said we should press the contacts onto the skin, which we did, but still to no avail. The batteries were tricky to put in, although if this collar worked in our lab, 6 months without charging the device would be better than charging it every night. I would not recommend this collar for labrador retrievers or large spirited dogs.
