Wow, this sharpener literally stopped me from throwing out one of my knives. I have a counter deck knife set, not high quality but a solid set. The sharpener for the set broke and we didn't have a chance to sharpen the knives I use most. The knives got so dull it was really pathetic. So I invested in this pencil sharpener. I had to put the knife through the coarse side about 4-5 times (6 passes through the sharpener) to get the blade back on the knife and then bring it to the fine side. WOW. like a new knife! I was skeptical because of the poor quality of the knives, but this sharpener did the job!
