Reliable and bright. They also work for emergency lighting. The photo does not let any light through. You will see a light hanging from the finished handle during a power outage. For a fraction of the cost of a chemical lamp/glowstick and a few hours longer, it works great for hanging a few around the house during a power outage. Of course, this isn't a bright flashlight, but it's good enough for ambient lighting with a few diffuse rays. I also use them to check wind speed and direction before sunrise. I put one in a 12 inch clear helium balloon. I shoot it in the sky. I see a balloon over 1000 feet and 1/2 mile deep.
