Highly Recommended

Highly recommended by Rachel O'Leary (Queen of Nano Fish and Inversions) so I ordered a few, quickly cut a postage size square and tossed it in all my aquariums except the one that was curing. After reading the back cover I realized it would get rid of the drugs. The back says dark brown corresponds to tannins/humic acids and light brown that turns to dark brown corresponds to organic waste. So after a few days I see that the squares are such a brownish color. Now I'm wondering how much tannin is removed? And when it turns dark brown I think the nitrate levels are high and it's time to change the water anyway. I guess I thought this was something to leave in my tank, but I may have misunderstood some of what Rachel said and/or how she used it. I certainly don't want the tannins to be removed by adding leaves and wood to them to increase the tannins. Just thought I could use it as an indicator that something bad was going on in the aquarium. However, I reread the back cover and it says the time between water changes is increasing. So maybe I'll just use it as a guide right after a water change and then take it out unless I want it to soak up the nutrients and then leave it in. long day for me and it might just be my brain) is a light tan fading to dark brown registering tannins and organic waste. Am I missing something? I need to see if tannins count as organic waste. I'm assuming they're organic, so. In any case, I might not have bought 3 packs if I had known about this, although I see it would be good to extend the water change time when going out of town. .Update: Actually just for info. Not suitable for use in HOB as it is only "consumed" in one day simply due to normal nitrate levels (20ppm). I would suggest trying it in a HOB tank with a much lower bioburden like my all shrimp and dwarf catfish tank.
