It works - Best with a little help

1. This works with the Baofeng UV-5R. The base of the antenna is wide so it may not be suitable for other radios with a narrow antenna. In addition, the SMA connector sits deep. Some adapters might be too small, but I was able to fit an SMA to BNC adapter to use the short BNC cable that comes with the wireless package. Again, it sits low so your adapter's center pin may not be seated/touching if you can't hear anything. Try a different brand of adapter.2. I tested this antenna using a vector impedance analyzer and an adapter to connect it. SWR <4 was poor at around 70cm. If you use this at around 420 - 470MHz for amateur or GMRS it works, but I wouldn't invest more than a watt for UHF if that's the case. If your radio gets warm, turn it off. The SWR was friendlier <3.3 in the VHF band 144-148 MHz. Here's the secret - add a tiger tail/counterweight (google it). My SWR has changed to <2 on both bands. a. I installed a ring adapter at the base of the antenna. (Or just strip the wire and wrap it around the metal cap) b. I attached the 18.5 inch cable. The cable should only hang from the radio. don't hold it 4. Ohm was never around 50 no matter what I tried. When the antenna is folded, you need to draw less than a watt because not only is the antenna folded, but your output power is also reflected back to the radio. Many modern radios automatically reduce their output power when this happens. Basically, SWR is a The usefulness of the Antenna is extremely unfriendly when folded. I don't care how many war movies you've watched with it with antenna folded, or whether you were or have been in the army, and please don't argue about folding it when transmitting or having reception problems. This reduces the efficiency of both TX and RX. Stack when used.
