Review on Hawk Performance HB551F 748 Street Brake by Timothy Jimenez

Installed these on a 2008 535i. They include a brake sensor but do not come with the new rattle clips. I think the new rattles help reduce the noise, especially if you swap out the second to last or third to last. They work well after warming up. These are definitely high performance outdoor pads. The downside is that they are noisy. The squeak is quite minor at low speeds. This problem didn't show up until about 300 miles after the bed was finished. While I appreciate the braking power at high speeds, I mainly use my car for commuting and driving around town. And they are NOT trackpads. Therefore, at low speeds, the squeak is too annoying. If you're looking for a better alternative, I went with the Wagner ThermoQuiet pads for this machine. They have better cold properties, but fade slightly more easily at higher temperatures. But more importantly, they are completely silent. The solution really depends on what you are looking for here. If you're looking for a good, economical pad to get around town, get something like the ThermoQuiet (there are others like Akebono that work just as well). If you want high performance road pads (I don't know how many people that applies to) go for the Hawk HPS pads, they won't let you down. Personally, I think the market for this type of last makes little sense. If you need a trackpad, buy a trackpad. If you want an outdoor playground, these MUST be quiet while driving a BMW 5 Series. For better or worse, the ThermoQuiets pads also correspond more to the modulation properties of the original pads (hard bite, with more damping at high temperatures).
