Review on Garmin GPSMAP 64x Handheld GPS with Preloaded TopoActive Maps in Black/Navy, One Size (010-02258-00) by Wei Fan

I've been using Garmin GPS Hikers since 1996. I really liked the Garmin 60Csx GPS Navigator. It was easy to use. With MapSource, file management is a dream come true. After 12 years of service, however, it's time to get a new GPS. I chose the 64Csx because I wanted a modern device with some extra features like a camera and flashlight/flash. I had serious problems activating my device and downloading maps from the Garmin website. I spent two hours on the phone with tech support to finally activate the device and download maps for the US and Canada. I was very satisfied with the help of the technician. Basically I am satisfied with the device. It has plenty of memory to store all topographic maps. I think it will contain 5000 waypoints (compared to 1000 on my old device). I don't think there is a distance limit (compared to 20 on my old device. It's very accurate and easy to use. However, file management isn't as easy as it was on my old device. The device has the usual odometer, maps, Compasses and pages I would give the GPSMap 64Csx a 5 star rating However it needs to be paired with the Garmin BaseCamp software I wanted to upload maps from the GPS to BaseCamp this is not possible and the GPS needs to be connected to the computer as an external drive to use the maps. The file management in BaseCamp is non-intuitive at best. Unlike MapSource, which was my dream, I would give BaseCamp very bad reviews. I could write a book about this software... But I rate 64Csx , not BaseCamp Just remember they are paired and you can't avoid BaseCamp Garmin: Please update and update MapSource and v throw BaseCamp.
