I have hiked around waterfalls with them 3 times which is easiest to always walk straight way over the water. I wouldn't wear them in the rain, these shoes let water through even the smallest puddle. It takes a day with a break before they break down. I hated the first day I used them. You are most comfortable in socks, even if you plan to get wet. If they are wet they will be more comfortable if you keep them as moist as possible. If I'm only wearing them to run away for a little nausea, don't wear socks. Pros Light weight Water flows straight out They look like running shoes great airflow great comfort good support You can go without socks if you don't plan on walking much if they get dirty you can hose them down. Ghost is wet, you want them damp until ready for the drying process which takes time, the insole came loose after three rough uses.
