Initially the buoy worked well but over time the screw cap over the inflation valve became more difficult to close and open. About the third time I used the buoy, I heard a whistle through the valve while sailing. The valve did not close and slowly released all the air. After figuring out what was going on, I screwed the valve very tight to make sure I wasn't losing any extra air. I took a closer look as I reached the shore. Looks like the valve is defective; it must be screwed on tight enough to hold the air so that later (especially with cold hands) it cannot be opened to deflate. In fact, I have to twist so much to close it tightly that I later have to pry it open with my teeth. I don't know if I got some kind of defective buoy or if this is the standard for this brand. It's frustrating that a piece of gear designed even partially to save lives should lose air so quickly.
