I wouldn't call it easy to call.

I needed an unusual size mat for some awards. It was cheaper to just buy large pieces of uncut matte card stock and a tool to cut it and do it yourself. I wasn't planning on spending a lot on a tool so $20 seemed reasonable. I watched tutorial videos before purchasing and it looked easy enough. I've just cut 2 of the 5 mats I need tonight (quite large; 20 x 14.5 matted to 24 x 18), I'm pleased with how they turned out, but it's been a chore. First I had to calibrate the start/stop display; I had to move the decal a bit because it didn't line up with the blade at all no matter how I adjusted the blade. I highly recommend doing some test cuts. I probably did a good two dozen or so on a piece of matte board so I can set the blade to the correct depth and get a feel for how much pressure I need to fully cut through the board. The cuts aren't perfect, but they're close enough. As a graphic designer I'm a fan of presentations and overall it does a good job. The corners are not as clean as we would like. I found it a real challenge to stop the blade in the right position to complete the turns. I had to take an Xacto blade and cut each corner a little - just a little; basically just a layer of black paper that hasn't been cut all the way through. I also recommend taping everything down so you have good leverage against the pressure you have to use to cut. Luckily the blade is really sharp so with enough pressure it will cut through on the first try. Finally, I suggest using an unused piece of matte cardboard underneath the one to be cut. I have a self-healing cutting mat, but this cutter seemed to move much better with a cutting board directly underneath. I kept a cutting mat under both; didn't want to risk shortening my dining table! In short, it does its job, makes good cuts, but it takes practice and care to get it right. I'm glad I only had enough board for 2 of the 5 mats I needed; the thought of doing something with another shot makes me cringe.
