I had intermittent problems starting my 2003 Honda CRV. It spins and makes a noise like it's tipping over, but then it loosens up and stops spinning, and there's no noise when the key is held in the start position. After the car sits for a second, it usually starts normally. There was no starter noise or hum like other people have described in their cars - just an intermittent weak start or no start. I bought a new battery, checked the alternator and starter. I even cleaned the battery terminals but to no avail. After doing some research I decided to replace this switch and voila! It's been about a week and I've had no problems starting my car. I'm really surprised that this $30 switch was able to solve the problem and I'm very happy with it. It was relatively easy to install. So if your car is having trouble starting or won't start I would try this before trying the alternator even if you don't have the whirring noise other reviewers have described.
