I've been using AS5 in builds for over a decade and finally switched to a newer paste. It is great; My CPU is idle at room temperature and returns to this temperature very quickly after stress testing. Finally I can sleep well knowing that my 10850k probably isn't preparing for load. I'm using a 240mm AIO with this i9 and didn't see any benefit until I switched to a better paste (or maybe I just applied it wrong before). Don't worry about the spatula, though. Place a pea-sized drop in the center of the CPU and press the cooling block evenly against it. It spreads out and the goo doesn't run down the sides (thankfully that's not a problem since this material doesn't conduct electricity, but it's uncomfortable nonetheless).
