2013 Kia Soul Owners: Buy This Key!

After 6 years my unlock button on my key failed and the lock button barely held. I had a spare so thought I'd take a chance and buy one and see if I could get it to work. I used YouTube tutorials from Car Key Man and Remote Pro. The most difficult thing when transferring the components of the old key to the new shell is the transponder chip. You usually have to disassemble the old key to get to it as it is embedded and glued inside. So don't make the same mistake I made when I was looking for this. The shape/space is there for the chip, as you'll see in the tutorials, but it's not really there. As this is the hardest part and doesn't apply to us, moving the ignition key, battery and circuit board into the new case is literally a breeze. (I decided not to use a blank, new spring, or joint, but just use the old parts and old ignition key.) Minus the time I wasted looking for the transponder chip, I might have 20 minutes needed! It's amazing to be able to spend so little and do it yourself compared to the $300 price tag for a new Kia key. It's worth every penny. In my photos you can see my old key, my new key and the key case I bought to keep the new key safe. (Unfortunately it doesn't match the key as the hatchback icon is where my panic button is. But that's fine.) In the second picture you can also see where I broke off my old key looking for the transponder chip. πŸ€¦β€β™€οΈ I wrote this review specifically to save someone a headache. Lol PLEASE save $300 and buy this to make your own. You will not regret it!
