Review on 🔧 Robinair 15800 VacuMaster Economy Vacuum Pump - Powerful 2-Stage Pumping Action, 8 CFM, Durable Chrome Design by Greg Mahoney

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Nice pump if you know what you are doing.

Used half a dozen pumps over the years. Whether made in the US or China, most of these are junk. This 2 stage 8 CFM device works great. It works so well that I bought 3 more (for parallel multi-stage compressor systems). My customers also bought it on my recommendation and are satisfied with the product. I lost my leg shock absorber when the pump fell 4 feet off a truck shelf. The pump still works perfectly. Someone complained that the pump does not start when turned on. This is a common problem with vacuum pumps, especially when the oil in the pump is cold, and it happens to me every winter. This is not the fault of the pumps, but of elementary physics. Crack in the seal where the hose connects to the pump to prevent the pump from starting with low pressure and thick oil. After rotation, the seal and pump will function normally. If the pump is REALLY cold, it probably won't start at all. You can use a heat pump with a Mapp propane/gas burner to heat/dilute the oil. If it affects you at all, don't do it. Some people complain of sweating. Initially it moves at a rate of 8 CFM per minute. OF COURSE you get Fog on every major system! If you don't want a mist, limit the flow until you get enough vacuum, but time is money for those who buy an 8cfm two-stage pump. Fog is a compromise for a fast vacuum. And the last remark. Very often it is not possible to get a deep vacuum. It happens all the time. This usually means there is a leak in your system or meter installation. It can also be caused by an uncalibrated vacuum gauge, contaminated oil in the pump, or an incorrect oil level. All 4 of my pumps are still producing a VERY deep vacuum when plugged in and checked with an accurate gauge.

Pros
  • Great for a small home
Cons
  • boring packaging
