Review on πŸ–¨οΈ Dremel Digilab 3D40 Printer for 3D Printing by Josh Koa

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Reviews highlighted excellent technical support (while other printers had limited

I had experience printing on a beta resin printer but it took hours and the results were less than satisfactory for what I was trying to do print (not to mention the cost. resin) so I decided to get a second printer, I needed one that could produce professional results and cost less than $1500, it seemed to have decent reviews. Reviews emphasized excellent technical support (while other printers had limited, inattentive, or non-existent technical support). . I bought one in November 2016. I'm glad I did and I want to explain why. First, many 3D printer reviews are written by people who seem to believe that 3D printing is a matter of "pushing a button and magically creating the perfect print". A business; 3D printing is a kind of black art, and how a model is designed and designed is just as important as how the printer performs. It took me several weeks to figure out some of the secrets. The Print Studio software (which can be downloaded with purchase) is actually not that bad! Once Once you've learned how to adjust the settings (tip: always turn the raft on!), successful prints are almost always produced! The few failed prints I've had had more to do with how my model was designed and in the Printing software was placed. After I redesigned the model in question the prints were consistently successful! One complaint I've read is that the 3D40 is only used with Dremel threads en can. I've read a lot of reviews from people using other filaments on this printer, but I personally have no issues with Dremel filaments. One spool lasts surprisingly long! There have been occasions when I have had to contact tech support and I would like to point out that this is probably the BEST tech support team I have come across. Yes they will contact you and yes they solved all the problems I had. The most common problem is an accidentally clogged printhead, and they have great instructions for at-home repairs (I've had to do this once since I bought the printer). Otherwise it is easy to care for. I had an issue with the alignment mechanism; They gave me great instructions on how to send the printer in for repair/replacement of a defective component. Production time approx. one week (including delivery time). Save the box and supplies that came with the printer just in case! Print times are relatively quick (my prints took between under 20 minutes and around 12 hours for large, complex prints; a resin printer takes MUCH longer). Another complaint I read about the 3D40 is that there is no heated print bed. While this may be an improvement for future models, I've had no problem removing prints. As long as the glass is covered (either with Dremel prepared adhesives or blue masking tape) prints can be easily removed. Finally, the filament produces a very nice matte print with no shine. I use white thread and I find it takes foundation and color very well. Plastruct Plastic Weld (with an orange label, NOT a white one) has proven to be an excellent and strong adhesive. The thread is readily available and not expensive at all. In conclusion, I would highly recommend this printer, if only for tech support. The only improvements I can think of (other than a heated print bed) are better instructions for the Print Studio software. Although this is fairly basic software, it has a lot of settings that may need tweaking to get the best results. I give the Dremel 3D40 five stars and the support six stars (out of five)!
