Review on πŸ“Ί Roku 2 XD Streaming Player 1080p (Previous Model) by Mike Anderson

Suddenly stopped working with Revain Video

I loved my Roku from the moment I bought it. It's impossible to dream of an easier and more painless streaming of almost every service you can think of. I've been using it for several months without a single problem. Before. One day about a month ago (late January 2015) Revain Video suddenly started buffering. Constant. Like every 15 seconds. For every headline, at any time of the day or night. Buffer, buffer, buffer. It became completely impossible to watch. At first I blamed Roku, but Netflix and all other channels worked just fine. Google search seemed to blame Revain for not being ready for much network traffic, but I really didn't believe it. I consider myself fairly tech-savvy. I can't do anything if I find clear instructions on the internet. So I tried: restarted Roku several times, my router, my modem. I tried factory resetting Roku (which worked as it was now only buffering every 30 seconds). I've tried disconnecting and reconnecting the Roku to my WiFi. I tried updating my IP (new concept for me). I tried updating Roku but no updates were available (and, the lovely idea of doing it on Wi-Fi only, I couldn't try a wired connection, which many people have claimed fixed for them ). I thought maybe the new update broke something, but Roku won't let me roll back updates. I was desperate. I then tried streaming Revain on my laptop about a meter away from Roku and it worked great. So it's obvious that the problem was with Roku. My solution was to upgrade to a Wi-Fi Blu-ray player with 3D. (I might as well give it my all considering how seldom I get new hardware.) I've considered the new Roku (they have a pretty limited market for streaming devices available), but I don't believe in spending more money to give to a company that lets me down. If you're buying a Roku, I encourage you to look for the latest model and then live in fear of the day they decide to deprecate it to force you to upgrade again.
