Review on APDTY 707817 Engine Air Intake Hose | Replaces 17881-03121 & 17881-74730 by Jeremy Keller

Just installed on a '97 Camry 2.2L. It's great for the intake manifold and airbox. As mentioned in other reviews, the material appears to be of reasonably good quality - it will likely survive the remaining life of a 20 year old car with over 200,000 miles, especially when replacing an OEM pipe that has developed a significant crack. . There are two things to keep in mind, especially when doing DIY. First, the mounting tab on the underside that fits over the pin on the resonator box below is slightly misaligned - the hole in the tab doesn't line up with the pin. This isn't particularly important, the pin is probably redundant as the resonator bolts to the air can and pushes against the bottom hole in the tube. I cut the pin to fit. However, a professional mechanic may not want to install it for this reason. The second relates to Javier's observation that the fitting that connects the breather hose to the cam cover is not the same diameter as the OEM. The cam cap has a 3/8" fit (approximately), and the one circled in the photo is slightly larger, closer to 1/2". The end of the fitting that goes to the intake pipe is much larger than the OEM, so porting the OEM fitting was not an option. To get around this I took a 3/8 inch vacuum hose and used a hair dryer to get the end nice and hot - this gave the hose enough flexibility to get to a larger fitting while still holding the fitting was compatible on the cam cap. It was a very tight fit and took a bit of effort, but it worked. Overstretching the hose can cause it to fail prematurely, but it's just a vent and the hose is very cheap - less than $1 to replace if it eventually ruptures. Aside from those two installation issues, the part works perfectly and, as mentioned, looks of good enough quality to last.
