Good filter, good flow. All the hype is that my 2013 6.7 Power Stroke has been removed and tweaked. I run this stock filter because my buddy has the same truck with the same pipe and setup except it's 2012 and paid over $100 for a K&N style reusable air filter. I MANAGE a fleet of trucks and we have a filter booth that we use to clean and check the filter flow. So. The camp configuration and K & N are very similar. Unless the material they are made of is different. We put them both in a filter chamber, the standard filter was brand new and used by k&n but we cleaned it and applied oil as instructed. We know what we have been doing in mechanics and racing for years. So the standard filter passed 623.7 cfm at 71 degrees through a 3 inch pipe with no pleat movement. The K&N filter passed 593.7 cfm at 71 degrees through a 3 inch pipe with no pleat movement. Just above cfm and both filters started folding there. So the next test was longevity, we installed a stock filter in our truck for 5,000km at the same mileage from work to 72km a day. We removed it and it leaked at 594.7, we installed k&n, did the same run, removed it and it leaked at 398.6, that's it. We also both noticed that larger particles were released from the stock filter and ended up at the bottom of the airbox. Greased k&n collected everything. This contributed to the K&N being limited to 5000 miles. The truck also had a check engine light, which I'll explain in a moment. No, just a simple fact. We both also found that when we inspected the duct from the clean air side it was spotless after we removed the standard filter. Inspection of the duct from the clean air side after removing the K&N revealed a black oily residue covering the duct and the mass air flow sensor. That also explains his engine light after the start of k&n. We don't advertise anyone's air filters, we don't work for Ford or anything, we just wanted to see if the hype was bullshit. We think so now. We also noticed that the second time we cleaned the K&N, the filter material started to wear out and could be pulled out with fingernails. So out of the test. K&N leaks less clean than the OEM filter and much less after 5000 miles than the OEM filter. I'm absolutely sure that the oil is good at picking up particles, but it's also a big problem. If you do not completely clean the oil and dirt from the K&N filter, the cleaner will loosen the oil and dirt allowing it to flow through the filter and be sucked into the intake manifold after an oil change and reinstallation. I've heard my entire life that the k&n was the best high capacity filter and did a great job of protecting your engine. I totally disagree. I hear guys say they get more mpg and more power. There is absolutely no way. I think the wishful thinking comes from how much they paid for the filter.
