A common problem with S&W M&P Compact 22's with a threaded stock is that the thread protector is almost impossible to remove. I found that true. S&W usually sends a gun key for this, but mine came with no key. The wrench flats on the thread guard are very narrow, so I tried to remove the thread guard with a stamped wrench lying around. He leaned forward. So I emailed S&W and they happily sent me one of their keys. With minimal pressure on the wrench, one of the ears broke off. So I spent some time looking for a durable thin wrench and came across this 6" Channellock 806SW Xtra Slim Jaw Adjustable Wrench. As this is a Channellock product that I have always trusted, I decided to go with it to order it although it was a bit more expensive.It didn't work initially because the jaws were too thick to fit the flats.After lightly filing the sponges I put them in the grooves and I managed to to remove the protective coating on the thread Very durable wrench and well worth its price.
