1500 miles. no complaints

Just rode 1500 miles on the top of a Kia Sorento and really couldn't be happier. No problem with the bag, it's still intact and everything is safe and sound. Our Kia has factory side rails and we purchased crossbars as the main attachment points for the bag. I also bought rubberized padding under the bag and nylon webbing to put on. Not 100% sure that's what we needed, but we wanted a little more quiet. Each day I stuffed the bag as full as I could to reduce slapping, then tightened the side straps and attached nylon mesh to the side rails and crossbars. It seemed to work. The only sound I heard was coming from the mat when some of the excess wasn't pushed down by the pocket. It's not a stretchy material, so don't expect it to be heavily overloaded. I also didn't want to put too much strain on the seams and zip, so ours was full but not stuffed. I've had several hard-walled suitcases with wheels or handles on the sides of the bag and this hasn't been a problem. I couldn't reproduce the streamlined look from the photos, but some strategic loading allowed the bag's contents to be maximized. It was a bit of a hassle loading things in each day, but it was made up for by the extra space and comfort in the car. In terms of performance, I couldn't detect any noise and the bag had little to no adjustment. I tested it 3-4 times for the first 200 miles but only did a quick check after that when we stopped to refuel. Even when we made 80 it stayed where I left it. This reduced fuel consumption slightly, but not bad overall. It was midday when we also encountered strong headwinds and this tank's mileage fell below 20mpg (down from 24). This was the biggest issue I felt, I didn't notice much crosswind effect. If I were to travel a lot I'd probably look more closely at a hard case that could be locked, but for infrequent trips this bag works. Perfect for me. And I'm not sure there is a better solution for the price. I would buy it again.
