I have really mixed feelings about these lights, so I am going to list them:Pros:--lights are very durable; they look and feel expensive, and seem like they would hold up well to weather challenges.--there is a wide variety of color choices, so you can change them for holidays. This is the primary reason I wanted them.orange at Halloween, red/green/blue/white at the holidays, etc.--the lights are bright enough to serve as more than ambient light if you want them to. you can actually see to eat by them when they're white/yellow.Cons (which are mostly the flip side of the pros):--they are VERY heavy; the cables are quite thick and stiff, and the glass bulbs weigh a lot. They're not easy to hang from my patio in the usual way that I hang lights (hooks I have installed). They'll need to be stapled up I think, or secured with a better system than my plastic adhesive hooks.--they glare pretty badly. It's good they're bright, but they are almost like bare bulbs with glare. Even when low, there's a reflective quality caused (I think) by the glass that makes them less than easy on the eyes.--they are only controllable by the app, and the app is pretty invasive. I am tired of putting apps on my phone for every product I order, and I don't like giving unnecessary permissions to run a set of lights (I have little doubt that the app is not controlled by a US company, also, so do I need to be handing over my locale to countries that have a reputation for doing less than honorable things with data?). Usually I can install something without the app and just use it when I want to set them up the first time, but this uses the app every time I turn them on. If I don't want the lights to cycle through colors constantly, I have to use it every time. Not a fan of that. If my robot vacuum can run without the app after initial setup, I don't see why these lights can't.--I had a hard time getting them to stay connected to my Xfinity router (even on the 2.5g band). It dropped every time I unplugged them, so I had to reconnect them, and it took a few tries, so I spent 10-15 minutes turning on my patio lights each time. I'm not that patient.Summary:These are excellent quality lights with great color choices, but I personally will stick to my dumb lights that don't violate my privacy and don't weigh a ton. That's just personal preference, though. As far as quality goes, these seem worth the price, especially if you already have a bunch of smart home stuff (I don't.on purpose).
