Brews delicious coffee when poured into delicious coffee

We bought this to replace our 9 year old Hamilton Beach brew station. Our coffee needs have only grown since we became parents, and the BrewStation is no longer needed as I basically need to fill up my large thermos before heading to work. This coffee maker is easy to use. The fold down brew basket is nice and doesn't drip on the counter. The front water fill is good, but it overflows quickly when I pour. I started pouring water into the bigger hole behind because I'm impatient at 6am. Of course, that means I have to get it out from under the cupboards, but I don't mind. I need efficiency! Cleaning is very simple, nothing special is required. Unfortunately, fast brewing is not one of the strengths of this coffee machine. We always brew our coffee on the Bold setting because weak coffee is useless. It takes just over 15 minutes to prepare all 12 cups. The old BrewStation managed the same feat in about 10 minutes. An advantage of such a long time is that the coffee comes out hotter. This new coffee maker has a handy timer that tells you how long the coffee has been brewing, but unfortunately it starts counting as soon as you turn it on. If the countdown had started when the brewing process was actually finished, the 2-hour timer would have run 15 minutes longer. When you fill your machine with 12 cups of water and expect all 12 cups to return to the carafe as delicious goodness, brace yourself for disappointment. I pour water until it covers the entire number 12 in the rear window, for 12 cups of scalding hot java. If you pour on line 12, you'll be half a glass short and someone will be sad. What I would have wished for in this machine would be an adjustable warming time and a ready-to-cook signal. Sometimes I want the coffee to stay warm longer, sometimes less. Sometimes I just want to hear the sound that calls for a cup of delicious black coffee. Overall, it looks good, works, and doesn't break the bank. We hope this machine will last another 9+ years. Keep in mind that putting crappy branded coffee in this machine doesn't magically improve the taste. Buy good local coffee and stop blaming your coffee pot.
