When these steps were carefully removed from the original packaging, the top step broke off the three "nails" (like the protruding part of a clip) It's supposed to come with connect the side frame. After about 20 minutes of fiddling and using a butter knife I stuck 3 buttons on each side into the holes they were supposed to go. I carefully positioned the ladder, placing the ladder where I wanted it next to the end table and next to my cat's bed. My 13 year old cat (10lbs) used them great. A week later, when my son was home, he put his foot on the edge of the table (accessible by stairs); however, his foot slipped and ONLY touched the top step. Distributed immediately. By carefully turning the ladder on its side to reinsert the buttons into the holes, another section of the ladder came out and then the second ladder, along with the back of that ladder, detached from the buttons. No fight could bring this Humpty Dumpty back together. He comes back for a refund. In the description/picture they seemed much stronger than they really are. Buyer Warning. :(
