Review on Gray Sapphire Garmin Descent Mk1 Dive Computer, Watch-Sized with Surface GPS & Fitness Features, Includes DLC Titanium Band by Dee Parson

Revainrating 5 out of 5

This is the new standard in dive computer watches!

I've been looking for this watch since I started diving 25 years ago! The watch is exceptional, runs smoothly underwater, has very fast underwater updates for the computer and compass, and really knocks it out of the park with the GPS positioning for starting and ending dives. It tracks temperature, heart rate - along with all the other profile stuff. On the surface it's a great fitness watch too, again with the added benefit of GPS to track your workouts etc (as opposed to being on a remote island with no lithium batteries). A few things I'd like to change slightly are the brightness of the face in land mode and the font size in dive mode (for people over 45). I can see it, but I have to try a little to make it. Also, I don't know if 1) the GPS function for dive mode stores/recalls latitude/longitude coordinates; It is clear that the locations are stored in graphic form, but sometimes you need details about the selected dive site. 2) Can I use the Garmin Connect app for PC? This can help with long-term map planning and data processing for archival purposes. Despite this, the watch is light years ahead of other competitors! As a diver with 25 years of experience, certified YMCA, PADI, SDA, SSI, at least half of them as divemasters, public safety divers, this is an amazing watch. Boys will love that so many watches are in one: watch, fitness watch, GPS, heart monitor; and of course a dive computer! Great job Garmin. THIS is the new standard for dive computer watches! UPDATE: Garmin added latitude and longitude coordinates to the app to account for this as well. Two years later I still love watches; plus its price is $200 less than before!
