It Costs Money

Okay, here's an honest review of this article. I do not work for this company, do not receive rebates etc. First a little about myself to give you a starting point for evaluating this review: I only started woodworking 3 years ago. I have no prior experience. For the last 3 years I have felt the need for sharp chisels. Proven stones for sharpening, including diamond. My ability to sharpen a chisel or plane could best be described as a virtuoso pathetic disaster. Suffice it to say I have three sets of chisels, why? Because it's easier to buy a new set than it is to sharpen the old one. If like me you don't waste time or can't sharpen a chisel or plane without ruining it then YOU NEED THIS product. I know it's expensive but it's worth it. Now I have three sets of good chisels (not very good as I've already screwed them up a bit on the rocks). Now to the product itself: Setup is easy. You can start sharpening within ten minutes. Using the system is just as easy in many ways. You can find videos on YouTube showing how to use the tool. If you watch videos and reviews and if you're like me you see them cutting their arm hair with a chisel afterwards and you think there's no way I can get my chisel that sharp. NOT CORRECT! Even with my inexperience and lack of dexterity, I was able to machine the discs and achieve a high gloss finish, micro bevel the edges, and shave off some arm hair (I'm not sure if anyone thought this was a good way to do it). would be to demonstrate sharpness). for 10 minutes each. a little. Now the reason this didn't get 5 stars: The tool is NOT ideal for leveling the backs of chisels of any width. Most importantly, DO NOT attempt to flatten the back of narrower chisels. I ruined my smaller pocket chisels by trying to smooth them out. What happens is you have to carefully place the chisel on the wheel (while it's spinning) and make sure the chisel stays flat. It's not an easy task, but in the end it only takes a few minutes on the machine to round off a square edge (plunge chisel) or carve a notch on the back/sides of small chisels. Even though the machine ruined my narrower chisels I still give this one 4 stars. Now I know I can't even try. If you have something you want to practice on and feel like you can get better, do it. I recommend that you use your stone to keep the back/edges flat and then use a machine to sharpen the very edge of the bit. Also a quick note on my plane iron, it was easy to sharpen and pulled long chips quickly. The design and ease of use is great value and will (if you're like me) bring your old chisels to life. It would also be nice if the system had a case in which all the accessories fit. Since it doesn't, I have to keep mine in the box. You see, don't buy a stone by sticking to previous approaches. When your blade gets dull, you can pull it out, put on the right grinding wheel, and have a new sharp edge in minutes. As always, take it for what it's worth.
