I've been a fan of Nite Rider flashlights for probably 20 years, the cadmium batteries didn't run out and I couldn't replace them. Now I ride a lot at night again and have tried a couple of the latest generation Nite Rider headlights and found that they just twitch. I drive where there are no street lights so I really need a bright light to illuminate road hazards and this thing just doesn't help. Worse, the place to connect the light is terribly impractical. You almost have to rip the damn cord to fit in the hole without removing the flashlight, and with poor battery life, this is a constant concern. Eventually, the battery status indicator will glow blue until the battery drops to 20%. then it shows red, which is not enough to warn you that your battery is about to run out. If it stays blue for the entire ride (e.g. using it in flashing mode when the battery life is a bit longer), then it will turn red again right away on the next ride, meaning you're still missing dough for the whole trip. I'd normally say it turns red around forty minutes into the ride unless you're using flash mode. Because of this problem, I have made it a habit to carry spare headlights.
