Our semi-annual retreat decided to use disposable cutlery to get out of the kitchen and back to fun faster. Since the idea of all that plastic repelled many, ordering compostable cutlery was a good compromise. The dishes themselves are easy to hold. It's strong enough and the blades and forks are sharp enough to use. Even if it takes a commercial composting facility to recycle them, they're still better than regular plastic, right? So what were they thinking when they sealed each set in plastic packaging that cannot be composted or recycled? If you're willing to pay more for compostable cutlery, be sure to buy large cases, not sets. Otherwise, you're just adding more plastic to the system.
