I cannot confirm the effectiveness of this device in relation to personal safety/emergencies as I fortunately did not have to test this device in this one Quality. However, I can say a few things about the quality of the device, as follows: 1. The activation clip, after 4 months of use, attached to a keychain with exactly 3 keys, is now so loose that it sometimes comes loose when I use it a bit hurriedly pull out of the pocket and get the keys enough momentum to pull out the key. Clip.2. The volume of the sound itself is about the same, I think, maybe a little louder than that of a standard household smoke alarm. Think about it and the situation in which you would like it to be useful in your situation: effectiveness varies from a noisy dance club to a quiet alley. a makeshift bike alarm with a lanyard for when I have to leave my bike to run to the store. I've also used it as a temporary alert when working in the field to temporarily "secure" toolboxes, heavy equipment and gates when it becomes very inconvenient for the Superintendent to lock/unlock areas. Positioned either high or low outside of the normal field of vision, it was an effective short-term alarm for keeping people honest.
