I've always used cast iron cookware and for some reason only used steel wool for cleaning. That was a big mistake. Wool can scrape off more of the protective layer than such a chain scrub. This is great for removing the residue of use without removing the protective coating on pans. You can wash them without detergent and then oil them and they will stay shiny and flavorful all the time. I love that this chain cleaner has a silicone center that holds the shape like you have to add soap, it also holds the soap a little better. I use this for a lot of things that get stuck in the trash and while it's not scratch sensitive it works wonders for some things you can absorb like pyrex.
