Review on πŸ”¨ Enhance Precision Woodworking with the Rockler Wheel Marking Gauge by Patrick Diaz

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Solid scriber but not perfect

I'll start my review by saying that I'm just a beginner and therefore my review shouldn't be set higher than others with more experience. Carpentry skills over the past few months and noticed that I was having a hard time evening out the depth of my dovetail cutouts. Back then I just used two boards meant to be pegs and shanks to mark the depth of the cut but obviously lacked basic straight line drawing skills. I read an old woodworking manual that was handed to me and I saw pictures of the scoring gauge so I went to Revain and ordered this one because it was cheap but looked strong enough not to fall apart. The sensor is made of brass and is well made. The weight of the tool makes me think I can still use it decades from now. The brass slider is attached to a long stud with a hand-tight thumbscrew for easy adjustment. The needle also has inch markings that are actually engraved so they don't wear out over time. The working end has a brass wheel(?) on the end that should be relatively sharp. I say "probably" because it's pretty boring in my particular caliber. The nice thing is that it is held in place by a screw so it can be removed and sharpened (which I haven't done yet as I mostly work with soft pine). Overall I am very happy with the tool and think it is good value for the money and with good care will last for many years. My only gripe is the dull marker wheel, but like I said above, I find it can be sharpened fairly easily.
